You are going on a trip and take out your suitcase to start packing when you discover that there is a big hole in the bottom of the bag. You decide to buy a new one and after shopping around you see a deluge of brands and styles. So you scratch your head, look at the heavens for help. You do not have to wait long because choosing the right luggage for is not that difficult. You just need to make a list of your requirements to narrow down the choices. From your shortlist you can choose which one you like best. The one thing that is important is that you make sure to get lightweight luggage.

Why Lightweight?

Why is it so important that it will be lightweight you might ask? Well, for one you do not want to be carrying a mammoth suitcase. Lightweight luggage reduces the possibility of you having to pay extra weight fees at the airport terminal.

What Material?

Now you need to consider the other qualities of good luggage. Start with the materials. If you do not have to carry something fragile you can get soft sided luggage. If you need to protect something then you need to get hard shelled. Soft sided suitcases can be made from polyester like the American Flyer Fireworks suitcase, or from nylon, like the TravelPro Walkabout Lite 3. It can even be made from some mystery fabrics like the Eagle Creek suitcase made from recycled and Bi-Tech Fabric. Hard shelled suitcases are made from aluminum, like the Zero Halliburton luggage or polycarbonate, like the Heys USA XCase.

Craftsmanship

After checking the materials, take a peek at the construction of the luggage. Look at the stitching of the luggage and check if it is double or triple stitched. Check also if it has reinforced corners. Make sure also that it is expandable, like the Victorinox Avolve Expandable, just in case you bought something extra during your trip. It will be good if you get one with spinner wheels on each corner of the luggage. The Victorinox Avolve also has these. Next thing to look at are the handles. Make sure that they work well, are padded and the length is not too short or too high.

Shopping

Then, when you are satisfied with the features, you can start checking out the prices. There are bargain suitcases that you can find but for good measure balance the price with the quality. Cheap luggage is almost always not a good choice, especially if you have to use your suitcase several times a year.
